“Postpartum” is an intimate documentary that delves into the emotional journey of three diverse young mothers, united by the birth of their children in early 2024. Directed by one of the mothers herself, the film offers a raw and unfiltered glimpse into the everyday lives, joys, struggles, and thoughts of the protagonists through their self-documented video diaries. As these women navigate through the profound transition into motherhood, the documentary explores the complexities of their emotional state, compelling them to confront themselves amidst the chaos of nurturing new life. Amidst the beauty and challenges of motherhood, they balance between self-care and the demands of caregiving, often neglecting their own needs in the process. To enrich the narrative, the film blends the mothers’ video documentation with “visual essays,” offering abstract descriptions of emotions and feelings through experimental metaphors shot on 8 and 16mm film. Through this innovative approach and mix of storytelling styles film will invite viewers into the complex and often surreal landscape of maternal emotions.
